Westfield Penrith, also known as Penrith Plaza, is a shopping complex located in the Penrith, New South Wales central business district.

It has been owned to some level by the GPT Group since June 1971. In 2005, The Westfield Group requested clearance from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to purchase a 50% stake in Penrith Plaza from the GPT Group. The ACCC did not oppose this purchase.[2] Westfield purchased the half share in the property and the centres' name became Westfield Penrith.

Stores

In total there are over 300 retail tenants. The three department stores lease over 35,000 m² of a total of 89,700 m² lettable area.[3].

History

Originally built in the 1970s, the centre underwent extensive redevelopment during the early 1990s. Built in 3 stages, the centre was demolished and rebuilt leaving the first two levels of Myer the only remaining part of the original complex.

In June 2005 the Westfield Group acquired the centre and changed its name from Penrith Plaza to Westfield Penrith.

The most recent expansion was completed in November 2005 where the centre extended east over Riley Street.

Location

The centre is located adjacent to Penrith railway station interchange (incorporating a major regional bus terminal), and has approximately 3500 car park spaces.
